Breathtaking views for young and old

One of the highlights of the southern Sauerland is undoubtedly the Biggeblick lookout point, which is unmistakable from a distance thanks to its large, circular platform and a long needle pointing towards the sky. The viewing platform is located at the Waldenburg Bay near Attendorn. You can reach the popular excursion destination via a circular path of about thirty to forty minutes, which is marked with the A4 sign. The family-friendly route leads along the Biggesee lake and a short stretch through the forest.

Located at the north-eastern tip of Lake Bigge, the viewing platform built as a skywalk enchants its visitors both by day and by night. During the day, the Biggeblick lookout at a height of ninety metres captivates with a unique view of the the Biggesee as well as the Gilberg Island and the ruins of Waldenburg Castle. In the evening and at night, the viewing platform impresses with its radiant illumination in the colours blue and white. Whether you choose a lively family outing during the day or a romantic visit, for example as a couple, in the dark: Remember to pack your camera. The platform makes an excellent photo subject. But when snapping, don't forget to enjoy the beauty of nature in the here and now - because this cannot be captured even with the best camera.

Two days of hiking fun on the Bigge-Lister Trail

Are you in the mood for a hike lasting several days? Then enjoy the beauty of the Sauerland on the Bigge-Lister Trail, which is another highlight of the Sauerland. You should plan about thirteen hours of hiking time for the more than 45 km long route, so the Bigge-Lister-Weg is ideal for a two-day hike.

The Waldenburg Chapel, the Gilberg Bird Island, the Valentine Chapel and the only lake station in North Rhine-Westphalia are just a few of the attractions you can look forward to on this route. Along the way you will find a total of eighteen experience stations from which you can expand your knowledge about the Bigge-Lister landscape area in the Sauerland. In addition, you will be treated to a variety of vantage points, from each of which you have a fantastic view of the lake landscape of the Sauerland with the Biggesee and Listertalsperre.

There are also plenty of places to take a breather and places to stop for a well-deserved break along the Bigge-Lister Trail.

Great scenery on shorter routes

The diversity of the Bigge-Lister Trail appeals to you? However, you are rather looking for a somewhat shorter hiking route? That is absolutely no reason to put the Bigge-Lister Trail right back out of your mind. Through the establishment of so-called Spangenwege, the entire hiking trail contains a north, a south and a west route. The different routes allow you to hike sections that can easily be completed in a single day without missing out on the views and nature.

Castle fans take note!

In addition to the Bigge-Lister Trail, the Sauerland has many other routes of various lengths to offer. Castle fans will get their money's worth on the so-called 2-Castles Trail in Attendorn. On the approximately five-hour circular route you can marvel at Schnellenberg Castle and the ruins of Waldenburg Castle. The Biggeblick viewpoint mentioned at the beginning is also part of this route.

Five hours of hiking at a stretch is too much for you, but you still don't want to miss out on the impressive sight of Waldenburg Castle ruins? Then the circular hiking trail A5 could be just the thing for you. The circular trail can be hiked in one and a half hours and is thus also a great option for the older among the smaller hiking and castle fans.
